Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Consolidated Flange Management Tools (FMT)

MECIP, in collaboration with DIGATEX™, successfully implemented an Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven solution to develop a comprehensive Consolidated Flange Register for a major integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in Malaysia. The project was undertaken to support plant commissioning, operational readiness, maintenance planning, and long-term asset management by creating a single, reliable source of flange information across multiple facilities and engineering packages.

The project involved the processing and analysis of a vast volume of engineering information, including more than 500,000 isometric drawing sheets from multiple EPC contractors and plant packages. Using advanced DIGATEX™ AI-powered document intelligence and engineering data analytics technologies, the solution automatically extracted, identified, and validated piping flange information from engineering drawings and associated 3D CAD models.

By correlating design data, line topologies, flange connections, bolting requirements, gasket specifications, and equipment information, the system generated a consolidated and standardized flange register covering the entire facility. This significantly reduced manual effort, improved data accuracy, and accelerated information availability for commissioning, maintenance, and integrity management activities.

The project demonstrates MECIP’s capability in combining engineering expertise with Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies to transform complex engineering data into actionable asset information, supporting operational excellence throughout the asset lifecycle.
